Birthday Party Expectations

Reagan turns two on Sunday. Originally I planned a huge blowout party along the lines of her first birthday party. But time got the best of me and I decided instead to do a small get together with a few friends and family members that will be in town for Bailey's blessing. I figured she's two, she won't know the difference anyway. I'll save the big all out party stuff for next year.

I don't know how or why I continue to underestimate her, but I do. Yesterday she told me, "It's going to be my birthday. I'm two (holds up her hand trying to only put up two fingers)." She continues, "It's going to be MY birthday party, Barney." I don't know where the Barney thing came from. Didn't know she even liked Barney considering she's never seen a single episode (I will sacrifice my life for my children. But sit through 30 minutes of Barney, now you are asking too much of me). But my not quite two year old just told me she was expecting a Barney birthday party for her second birthday. I figured I had years before I had to give in to character demands. And how does she know her birthday is coming up and that act entitles her to a party held for her?

Isn't she a little young to be having expectations? I'm so doomed.

Matthew has been telling me this too so I can only imagine that they are prepping them at school. Do you think you can get away with some cupcakes at school (maybe Barney) with little goody bags for her classmates? That's what I'm doing this year. And we've given up on fighting off the character invasion -- it's pretty harmless when you think about it and brings them great joy. Good luck!! And Happy Birthday Reagan!!!!

LOL! You could get her a real live Barney for the party...and then watch her run away from such a big, scary character. Ok, maybe not.

Hee hee... our 2nd b-day party last year was Barney, silly me thought it was just a phase. I still hear "I wanna watch Barney" at least five times a day. UGH!
