Nothing to see here, move on

One of the obvious risks to a public blog is anyone can view it. On my stat counter I am able to see pretty nifty stats like how many people visited and where they were from and how they got to my blog. The analyst geek in me loves to look at the stats and I do on a regular basis.

I am also able to see what people searched on to get to my blog. Let me tell you, we google some really strange garbage. And apparently I blog about some really strange garbage because these search terms somehow find their way to my blog. The stranger stuff I just look at it kind of sideways and go on my way. But today as I was perusing the searches, one caught my attention. It was one of those searches where there was no mistaking it. No matter how you thought about it, it couldn't have been anything put a perv trolling the internet for pictures he had no business getting. I would love to give you more details than that but frankly, the more I type those words used in the search terms, the higher on the search engine I go for other pervs looking for the same thing. And while I love visits to my blog, there are some visitors that are simply not welcome. Mr. Ozarks perv would be one of them.

Mr. Ozarks perv landed on a page that was actually supposed to be an innocent inspirational post where I retold a story I had heard in church. It is annoying that something so innocent would bring someone so nasty to my site. Once might be tempted to think, maybe he read the story and was inspired? Uh, no. Jesus said not to put pearls before swine for a reason.

The stats showed that he clicked on the page, didn't see what he was looking for (of course) and immediately jumped off, which makes me feel better. But the fact that he still landed there at all still irks me. Mostly it is because I would like to deny these people exist and it makes it kind of hard for me to do so when they are wandering on my blog, my virtual backyard. I chose to make this blog public and I don't regret that decision. I knew that was a risk I was taking when I made it public. My reasons for making it public still outweigh the occasional evil doer troll that comes my way.

I know there will be more, but for now I will not change how I am doing things. But let me just make it perfectly clear to any other pervert that might happen across this site...this is a family blog. These are real people. These are MY children. There is NOTHING for you to see here. I welcome all to my blog...EXCEPT YOU. GET OUT of my backyard!

OMG! I have one of those posts as well I get almost 100 hits a month for it off of google. Mostly pervs but some moms just searching for boys underwear. Thankfully I used my better judgement and didn't include pictures eventhough the pictures were priceless.

Freaking pervs find somewhere else to hang out!

I hope you don't mind that I frequently read your blog! But yeah, I hate perverts! Although I'm not that sure many people are fond of them...

Bridget,
You are awesome! I think the same things about people looking in on my life, and do similar stat checking...I love that you posted a NIMBY for pervs.

Bridget I found you through babycenter I belong to the april 2006 but look an May too. I was always drawn to your posts because of your fab fashion and ability to make me laugh out loud. I love reading your blog. hope you don't mind. It is scary that those people can get to sites like yours. I find the way you balance everything amazing! I know you get a lot of the girls stuff on ebay and etsy but what do you search for? I just love the way you dress them. Thanks for being so entertaining.

Yikes! People can be so creepy. I don't have that sort of tracker here, but on my Flickr account, I can see the searches and some of them have been quite interesting. I know that I really think out my titles before I post them because he pornbots can pick them up so easily as well.

Good for you! I just signed up for a site to look at my stats too. God help somebody if I find something (more like when). Good for them people can't own weapons in Japan :) I KID! But seriously...:)

yikes. How do you look at the stats? I want to know how!

Tricia- thanks so much for the compliments. Of course I don't mind that you frequent my blog. I love that. As far as what I search on in Ebay and Etsy, that could be a whole post in itself (making a mental note). On ebay I search on OOAK, CBD, custom resell, M2MG. On Etsy, I have a terrible time with their search engine. I usually find stuf via their networking. Meaning, I find one thing I like and then I look to see who else tagged that item or seller as a favorite (because they obviously have good taste) and then I look to see what else they flagged. Send me a note for more info. I wasn't able to get any info from your comment to respond to you directly. Thanks again for visiting. You are always welcome on my blog!

Cristie- that's a really good question and I'll share it here because I think it's a good idea for all bloggers to be able to view that kind of information. There are several services available but the one I use is statcounter.com. I believe if you click on my stat counter on my sidebar it will take you to their site and you can set up your own account. It will walk you through the steps to create a stat counter and then give you HTML code to add to your page. If you or anyone has trouble setting it up let me know, I'll walk you through step by step.

I took like to bury my head in the sand. What's worse for me is when you google twin belly pics, apparently some creeps really like twin belly pics. I'll leave it at that. Very nasty, but I'd rather the creeps be checking out my enormous belly than checking out my boys.

Bridget - Wow, that is really freaky and fascinating at the same time. I've wondered how you can track who is visiting your blog. I think I have mine set so you can't find it on a google search. I've done a google search and can't find it, but I may not be as good at searches as I thought. There's always a way around stuff like that, isn't there? In any case, thanks for the great informative post!

Hear hear! I'm 1000% with you! These people have no business poking around our blogs. Disgusting specimens, waste of space and air if you ask me. (can't believe I can actually have such negative feelings about anyone, but here they aredefinitely deserved!)
