Making Connections: Sun, Sunburn, Sunscreen

Today we were hanging out at our pool. Here was a conversation between Reagan and Bill:

Reagan: Daddy, your shoulders are red!
Bill: Yes, they are sunburned.
Reagan: Ooooh! Your shoulders are sunburned?
Bill: Yes, that's where the sun comes down and burns my skin and makes it red.
At that point Reagan walks away. She comes back, a can of sunscreen in her hand. She fumbles with the cap.
Reagan: Here you go Daddy. Here is spray, no sunburn.
She then helps Bill apply sunscreen and rubs it in his shoulders.

My question is, if a two-year old figured out how not to get a sunburn, how come the 41-year old didn't?

I think the one word answer to that one is: male.

Although I'll admit to being a bad mom recently and totally forgetting sunscreen and having to beg it off another random mom....

LOL! That's too funny. Recently, I bought one of those spray sunscreens for the kids. Turns out, Tyler is highly allergic to it. I never even thought about that as an allergy for him because we'd always used Coppertone Water Babies (the pink one) and he's never had a reaction to that. That's what I get for trying something new!

P.S. Thanks for your comment on my latest post. Glad to know I'm not alone, either. :)

I'm finding that there are many things kids realize much quicker and more often than daddies. My girls know they're not allowed to leave the house w/o it... :)

It's got to be a man thing. My husband, even after a scare from having to have several places removed by a dermatologist STILL goes outside without sunscreen. Drives me NUTS!

LOL! I need her to remind me too. I'm so bad about it. I'll put it on Michael and still forget to put it on myself. I know my problem is that growing up, I never burned, and it really annoys me that it's something I have to worry about now.
