The Shiner

Shortly after I took pictures of Bailey on Saturday she tried to pull herself up on a bookshelf and fell. Hard. Her cheek/eye hit the edge of the bottom shelf.

I scooped her up while she cried and I tried to put a boo boo bear on her eye (they are ice packs that don't get hard that Reagan insists on having when she gets injured). There was a little bruise within seconds and it just got worse from there.

I've already been feeling like crappy mom of the year for it. Everyone keeps asking about Bailey's bruise. I didn't take any pictures or mention it before because I was just feeling so dang terrible about it. Everytime I see her eye I just want to cry. It was her first real injury.

As life and irony would have it, last week I sent in some photos of Bailey to a modeling agency that the girls school had put us in touch with. Today I got an email that they have a client that wants to do a photo shoot of Bailey THIS Thursday.

Now I really feel bad. Anyone know how to make a bruise go away faster? I suppose tomorrow I'll have to call and explain Bailey has a black eye. Maybe there will be other opportunities for her.

Poor Bailey.

Oh man, I am SO sorry. I have been there (not so much the modeling thing. . . that just rubs salt in the proverbial wound)

You are SO not a bad mother. There's just no way you can watch them every second, and they're sneaky! They want to explore, and they will figure out how! Don't let it get you down. And take a picture! You can tell her years from now what a naughty little thing she was. :)

Would you like to know when I was able to do Little Miss's two year pictures? Yeah. She was 2 and 8 months before she FINALLY didn't have a bruise on her face - other places, yes, but not her face. She's just hugely accident prone (and has a high pain tolerance). No good recipes to make a bruise go away faster unfortunately... but IF you discover some, pass them along as we're covered in them as usual over here!

Poor Momma and Bailey! The first of many injuries to come. It does not mean you are a bad mother!

I am an expert at feeling bad for all of Noah's bruises. He's had some really bad ones-remember when David dropped him onto the cement face first and we had to go to the ER? Anyway, it seems like the ones that look very bad in the beginning are the ones that heal the fastest, that's been our experience. The ones that gradually show up and turn black/blue/green over time seem to take forever to fade. How about makeup??!! You know, photoshop does miraculous things so they may want to do the pictures anyway and just fix the eye problem. My best friend is a prof. photographer and she has fixed quite a few photos for me in cases like this.

The only trick I know is to place a leech on the spot right after the injury. There's not a snowball's chance though that I'd ever actually do that. I don't do leeches.

As far as feeling bad, I know how you feel. Michael fell last fall and did a real job on his face. He has the tiniest little scar on his eyelid and I want to cry every time I notice it. I hope Bailey makes a quick recovery.

Don't feel like a bad mom. I've had a lot of bad mommy days, especially with Jacelyn. First, I zipped up her belly with her coat when she was just a few months old and it left a mark and bled. Another time, I was holding her and turned around and accidentally hit her foot on a computer tower that was taken apart bc dh was working on it. The corner stabbed her foot and it bled ALL OVER THE PLACE! It was BAAAAD! Those are just two of MANY things that have happened to her! lol

I would call the agency and tell them about her bruise. I'm sure they'll still want to photograph her. They can either dab some cover up on it or just remove it from the photos all together. Let us know how it goes on Thursday!

POOR Bailey and poor Mama..The same thing happened to B back when he was first learning to walk, he had a HUGE black eye, and like you as if I didn't feel bad enough everyone had to ask about it..But it's not your fault! You are a super mama

Noah got one too! He tried to do a flip from Bri's bed to the dresser and missed it but sadly caught the corner with his eye... not only did he have a black eye but he had a cute which somehow made him look like he was wearing eyeliner from the corner of his eye out to about his hairline. Accidents happen

Aw poor Bailey. I hate when things like that happen! Don't feel like a bad mom though. Things like that just happen and I think you are a great mom! Sorry I have no advice about the bruise!

I definitely know how you feel. When Max cut himself and got stitches, I felt horrible because I wasn't next to him to protect him from following the other bigger boys and men.

I wish I had a cure, there is stuff called herudoid (sp?) that I have from the philippines but I don't know if you can get it here. It is supposed to shorten the length of time of a bruise.
